Buy the Apple Lanyard ![]()
I have owned both the Apple and the Sound Wav Labs lanyards. Yes, the Sound Wav Labs version is less expensive than the Apple one, but if you get the SWL one, you will know why.
There are several differences between this lanyard and the apple lanyard:
* The Apple lanyard is adjustable, so you can make it looser or tighter around your neck
* The Apple version comes with foam padding for the ear buds, which helps them stay snug while jogging
* The Apple model has comfortable material around the part of the wire that goes around your neck
There are only two things that the SWL version has going for it:
* It also comes in black (My Nano is white, so I don't really care)
* It has a spring lock to help prevent it from detaching (I never had problems with my Apple one though)
The SWL ear buds were constantly being tugged out of my ears while I was jogging. I had to keep pushing them back in. The lanyard is way too loose, so I had to tuck the nano into my shirt because it was flapping around too much. The locking mechanism on my SWL lanyard got stuck and I it took me several minutes to get it detached. Basically, the SWL lanyard failed in every category.
I had the Apple lanyard but I spilled a drink on it and got liquid in the ear bud. This Sound Wav Labs version was going to replace it. Instead, I will sell it on eBay and get another Apple one. Unless you are ultra cheap and you want to save a few bucks, I strongly suggest the Apple lanyard!
Great, except a little problem... ![]()
I love the headphones/lanyard concept. Apple's version only comes in white, whereas I have a black Nano. So I was pleased to find this one in black. The sound quality is good, not outstanding, but just what you'd expect from ear bud style headphones. This product is just what I expected and hoped for, but with one flaw.
The "locking system" isn't as secure as it should be. I can disconnect it just by tugging slightly. Compared to how secure my wall charger connects to my iPod, I was disappointed in this locking system. I would worry that my iPod could fall off if I wasn't paying attention. I did solve the problem myself using a little ingenuity, but be aware of this issue if you decide to buy this lanyard. However, overall, I'm very, very happy with it!!
