Product Description
January 1946: writer Juliet Ashton receives a letter from a stranger, a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation, and of a society as extraordinary as its name.
Perfect rainy-day or weekend read. ![]()
I recently purchased this book in an airport before a 4 hour flight, not really knowing anything about the author or any more about the subject matter than the cover and inside covers hinted at. The tone of the book and the letter-style format gently but unwaveringly captivated me. I finished the book shortly after arriving home. After I finished it, I vowed to re-read it immediately, and get copies for two of my relatives (thus, my Amazon purchase). Excellent story. So much information provided in such an unassuming, humble, but entertaining way. I highly recommend it.
P.S. My gift recipients loved it as much as I did.

If you enjoy historical fiction, particularly the WWII era, you will enjoy this book. It is a quick and easy read set up in a letter format. Don't be put off by the somewhat strange title. You will understand once you are into the book.
You cannot help but falling in love with all of the members of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ![]()
I loved this book! I laughed and I cried(both of joy and sorrow). The story felt so real and alive, I had to keep reminding myself that it was fiction. You cannot help but falling in love with all of the members of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Now I want to go live in Guernsey and join a Literary Society. I can also say that I know a bit more about what happened at Guernsey during World War II, a period in time that we shouldn't allow ourselves to ever forget.
Has a Little Bit of Everything ![]()
My mother recommended this book so I decided to buy it for a trip I was taking to New Zealand with a friend. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the book because I thought its primary appeal would be to an older demographic. I was on the vacation of a lifetime in one of the most beautiful places on earth, but I couldn't wait to get back to my book. I would read it late at night after a full day of sight seeing and adventuring and I am sure my traveling partner was amazed at how much time I spent laughing. Some scenes were so funny I felt like I needed to read them out loud to share them. It was one of the few books I have read lately that I wished would not end. It has been a couple of months now and I think it is time to read it again.
